It was in 1913 that the French architect André Durafour founded a company specializing in studies and metal fabrication, which bore his name “Ateliers Durafour”. In the aftermath of independence, the Algerian State nationalized this company, of which it became the sole owner, and was called SN METAL (National Company of Metal Construction ).
This national company has a very eloquent track record as it built the El Hadjar steel complex, the Annaba phosphate fertilizer complex and the Annaba thermal power plant, to name only the most important. During the restructuring of the national companies in 1985, SN METAL becomes BATIMETAL to change its articles of association once again in 1989 to give birth to an EPE (economic public enterprise) in the form of SPA (joint-stock company) and specialized in the realization of ‘turnkey’ works.
In 1997, after its restructuring, BATIMETAL EPE moved to the BATIMETAL Spa Industrial Group, under the Ministry of Industry.
As of January 1st , 2016, the Industrial Group BATIMETAL Spa is transformed into a company called, Economic Public Company of Industrialized Buildings by the abbreviation “EPE BATIMETAL Spa”.
BATIMETAL is currently a national company with nine units and five partner’s affiliates, with a share capital of 10 billion dinars and employs more than 5,000 workers.
